Hand-Knotted Baluch Wool War Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted tribal wool accent rug attributed to Baluch weavers. The ‘war rug’ features designs inspired by the machinery of conflict. The midnight blue field has been populated with motifs representing jets, helicopters, tanks, and grenade launchers, all worked in a shades of curry, cinnamon, blush, ivory, wine, and coffee. The spaces between the instruments of destruction have been infilled with the same floral motifs found in the primary border which is flanked by saw-tooth guard borders. The selvedges are double overcast. There is long cotton fringe on short woven skirts at each end. A piece of wood has been attached to the underside of the rug at one end to facilitate hanging it on a wall. Unmarked.
