Saxon "Reiter Raupenhelm"

Item Details

A Saxon Reiter Raupenhelm or caterpillar helmet worn by Prussian calvary during the 1870’s. This piece features black leather and brass throughout with black leather clad support for the ‘rapue’ traditionally topped with black wool, which is absent in this piece. The front plate or ‘wrappen’ is brass with a crown badge surrounded by berries and leaves over a starburst. Brass, three leafed chin scales are found to both sides with a green ’kokarde ’with serrated edges to the left hand side. The interior features brown leather with brass and metal hardware throughout.

- Marks, wear and bends throughout.
- Wool rapue is absent.
- Interior liner is absent.
