A hand-knotted Pakistani garden area rug. This rectilinear wool rug is rendered in a palette of crimson, rose, taupe, cocoa, pink, and cream. It features a lattice design comprised of hexagonal panels, grounded in different colors of the palette, each enclosing an image associated with a garden. Motifs include vases and flowering plants, trees of life, and stars. Framing the field are compound borders, including a wide, meandering floral primary border that has been artfully shortened at the top and bottom of the rug. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with short cotton warp fringe. It is labeled on the reverse.
