"Harper's Weekly" Engraving After Remington "Football, A Collision at the Ropes"

A circa 1890 engraved page from Harper’s Weekly magazine after an illustration by well-listed American artist Frederic Sackrider Remington (1861 – 1909) titled Foot-Ball, A Collision at the Ropes. The greyscale print depicts a late 19th-century football game as a crowd of male spectators in bowler hats look on excitedly. The image is signed in plate to the lower right, with artist, title and publication information printed in plate to the outer margins. It is matted in white and presented under acrylic glass in a wooden frame with hanging wire mounted to the verso.

Condition

- discoloration, foxing and wear to paper with age; fold line down center of print; paper is off-center inside frame; edge wear, loose joints and scratching to frame.
