Variety of Mark Coomer Serigraphs on Boards
Item Details
A variety of five serigraphs on boards by well-listed American artist Mark Coomer (1914-2004). This eclectic collection includes a portrait of the composer Brahms, a Mesoamerican mask, a traditional African sculpture, a town scene, and a city skyline featuring the Empire State Building. A numerical inscription is handwritten along the bottom edge of the serigraph featuring the town scene. Each work is signed in plate and all remain unframed.
Born in Bay City, Michigan, Mark Coomer studied art in Chicago and Detroit before eventually settling in Arizona. He is known for his paintings and serigraphs, often depicting street patioscapes and urban city scenes. Coomer did almost all of his own printing, limiting his editions to 100. His preferred ground for his prints was masonite board, which combined with the permanent nature of his oil-based inks, were advertised as “washable”. Coomer exhibited his paintings and limited edition serigraphs nationally, and many can be found in private collections and institutions including the Chicago Art Institute; Challis Galleries, Laguna Beach, California; and The West and Walter-Bimson Western Art Collection housed at the University of Arizona Museum of Art.
