Assortment of Mark Coomer Serigraphs on Board of Genre Scenes

An assortment of five serigraphs on board of genre scenes by well-listed American artist Mark Coomer (1914-2004). These works feature truncated views of various types of architecture and figurative scenes, some of which feature storefronts, houses, canal archways, and market stalls. One work features a Japanese inspired Geisha titled Geisha with Cage, and another features a house titled Pink House, which contains a label to the verso and is wrapped in acetate. All works are signed in plate and all remain unframed.

Born in Bay City, Michigan, Mark Coomer studied art in Chicago and Detroit before eventually settling in Arizona. He is known for his paintings and serigraphs, often depicting street patioscapes and urban city scenes. Coomer did almost all of his own printing, limiting his editions to 100. His preferred ground for his prints was masonite board, which combined with the permanent nature of his oil-based inks, were advertised as “washable”. Coomer exhibited his paintings and limited edition serigraphs nationally, and many can be found in private collections and institutions including the Chicago Art Institute; Challis Galleries, Laguna Beach, California; and The West and Walter-Bimson Western Art Collection housed at the University of Arizona Museum of Art.

- Pink House acetate covering is crumbling and coming off; boards are toned; marks to compositions and versos; dust and debris; wear and fraying to board edges.
