Item Details

An English ceramic vase and dish. The vase is designed with a slim neck and bulbous body and is accompanied by a matching dish. The pair are presented on a white ground featuring cobalt anthemion bands consisting of stylized foliate clusters of honeysuckles blossoms and palmette branches to the verge of the dish, as well as the neck and body of the vase. The mark to the underside of the dish indicates it being registered April 7, 1855.

Anthemion: A Greek decorative motif consisting of stylized foliates and floral forms, derived from the honeysuckle blossoms and palmette branches extending in a radiating cluster. It is found, single or in bands, on silverware of the 18th and 19th centuries, both on large receptacles and on cutlery.
