An official appointment to government post signed by President James Monroe. Featured is a paper document stating, ‘That reposing special trust and confidence in the Integrity, Diligence and Discretion of James Williams I have nominated, and by, and with the advice and consent of the senate, DO APPOINT HIM, Collector of the Customs and Inspector of the Revenue for the District of Sandusky in Ohio…’ The paper is signed by the fifth President at the lower edge, as well as by the Secretary of the Treasury on May 6, 1822. Embossed seal is present to the left hand side of the paper encased in glass and presented in a black wood composite frame with gold accents.
