Embroidery with The Virgin Mary and Angels

An ecclesiastical embroidery piece. This piece depicts the Virgin Mary within a group of Heavenly Host that hold her in the air. The facial features and limbs of the figures are printed on the ground fabric, the majority of which has been covered in hand-stitched imagery that has been embellished in places with sequins. The center is surrounded by a border of scrolling details formed with couched threads. The work is unsigned and presented in a copper tone wood frame with wire to the verso for hanging.
Condition
- to Poor; discoloration throughout piece; pulled threads; threadbare areas; holes; slight warping of the image from stretching in frame; scratches and wear to frame.
