An albumen photograph of an Ancient Egyptian scene by listed photographer Jean Pascal Sébah (1872 – 1947). The work depicts a view of an exterior hall with decorated pillars. In plate, the work is titled illegibly and signed by the artist to the lower left and right corners. Housed in a gold-tone metal frame under acrylic glass and cream matting.
Sébah is the son of well-known Syrian-Armenian photographer Pascal Sébah (1823 – 1886). In 1888, he continued his family’s photographic business, later partnering with Policarpe Joaillier. The Sébah studio in Constantinople was an incredibly prestigious firm and Sébah photographed numerous scenes in Egypt and the Middle East. An 1893 publication of photographs of the Ottoman Empire was received by President Grover Cleveland and is currently housed in the Library of Congress.
Condition
- minor wear to finish on the frame; yellowing and some craquelure to the albumen binder.
