J.J. Burns Gouache Painting on Cardboard
Item Details
A gouache painting on cardboard by self-taught artist Jonathon Joseph Burns (American, 1951-2015). Depicted are abstracted penguin and bird forms upon a turquoise ground, rendered in a loose manner upon a piece of found cardboard. Signed to the lower right and float mounted under glass, housed in a black composite frame.
Burns lived and worked in South Oakland for many years where he rented a room in a square white brick building on Ophelia street. He covered the exterior with pained faces and wallpapered the interior with an array of colorful cardboard images. He eventually moved back to Binghamton, New York where he lived in a shack behind his mother’s house and decorated it in the same, wild manner.
