A folk art oil painting on panel depicting a couple and their van outside of a traveling circus by Francis Albert Jagodzinksi (Pennsylvania, 20th-Century). A memory of life in a traveling carnival during the 1930s. The work is rendered in thick, heavy application of oil and a simple palette. In the background are large circus tents and the couple hangs their clothes across the line between their van and a telephone pole. Signed to the lower right, ‘FB.’ Housed in a beveled wood frame.
Francis was a self-taught painter from Natrona, Pennsylvania who spent time working for a traveling carnival and also worked as a magician, ‘The Great Jagodzinksi.’
Condition
- minor craquelure and paint loss to the upper right quadrant.
