PRIORITY-J.J. Burns Gouache Painting on Found Wood
Item Details
A gouache painting on found plywood by outsider artist Jonathon Joseph Burns (American, 1951-2015). Depicted is a simplistic church in a color motif of red, white and blue. The church appears with a rose window and large tower with a cross. Signed to the lower left, ‘J.J. Burns.’ Unmounted and unframed.
Burns lived and worked in South Oakland for many years where he rented a room in a square white brick building on Ophelia street. He covered the exterior with pained faces and wallpapered the interior with an array of colorful cardboard images. He eventually moved back to Binghamton, New York where he lived in a shack behind his mother’s house and decorated it in the same, wild manner.
