K.C. Truschel Oil Painting on Board "Hooray for Wally Hood"

An oil painting on board titled Hooray for Wally Hood by outsider Pittsburgh artist William K.C. Truschel (Pennsylvania, 20th/21st-century). A crowd of mourners gathers around an open grave with a floral wreath reading, ‘RIP Wally Baby.’ Peering into the grave is a jockey figure with a needle, perhaps an ode to the loss of a horse. The figures appear with round, black sunglasses on in a surrealist manner with abstract elements appearing throughout the composition. The signature to the lower right is smeared but partially reads, ‘KCT.’ Presented with a wooden box frame. To the verso is an inscribed titled and gallery label with the titled and name of the artist.

Truschel was an unknown, self-taught painter from Bradford Woods near Pittsburgh. He painted from 1962-1967 and his work was never shown during his lifetime. His paintings often displayed themes of man’s shortcomings. His work was exhibited at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts in 2002.
