An oil painting on plywood depicting a jazz trumpeter by George Gist (Pittsburgh, b. 1952), executed in 2004. The large body and strong arms of the man are emphasized by their inflated size and smaller head. Bold horizontal stripes of red and white flare from either side of his figure upon a stark orange background. Signed to the lower right, ‘GIST ’04.’ The work is unmounted and unframed.

Gist is a professional portraitist, muralist and jazz musician (stand up base) in Pittsburgh. He painted the murals on the New Granada Theater on Central Avenue which were featured in the New York Times travel section.
