A pair of engravings on paper titled Tail Piece to the Artist’s Catalogue, 1761 and Analysis of Beauty by London engraver Thomas Cook (1744-1818), after English painter and engraver William Hogarth (1697-1664). Analysis of Beauty depicts assorted works of art in various classical styles strewn about a courtyard, with scholars examining the work. A frame around the image features thumbnail drawings of different styles of faces and random objects, with everything numbered for reference. The title, publisher’s information, and artists are printed beneath the image. The second print depicts a monkey in Victorian clothing, watering pots with dead trees. It is similarly attributed, with type beneath the image. Both prints are presented under glass in wood frames, with hanging wire affixed to the versos.

Condition

- foxing throughout; water damage to lower left corners of prints; residue under glass; surface wear and flaking to frames.
