Victor Marden Angora Chaps Once Owned by 101 Trick Shooter "Tex" Cooper
Item Details
A pair of wooly chaps once belonging to famed Wild West performer and actor Thomas Judge ‘Tex’ Cooper (American, 1876-1951). The chaps are marked ‘Victor Marden, Maker, The Dalles, Ore’ with stamping ‘101’, and would have almost certainly been used while Cooper was performing for the Miller Borther’s 101 Ranch Wild West shows. Housed in a shadow box frame and under glass.
‘Tex’ Cooper had a lengthy career in the Western arena, first performing with the Miller Brother’s 101 Ranch beginning in the late 19th century and into the early 20th century. He was a noted friend of William ‘Buffalo Bill’ Cody (American, 1846-1917), and also toured with his ‘Wild West’ shows following his tenure with the 101 Ranch. Cooper also acted in several Hollywood films toward the latter end of his life, often taking on the character of Buffalo Bill.
This collection was previously offered in a Bonham’s sale of Western Memorabilia (4/4/1995), and that catalog entry is illustrated here.
