Vintage Hand-knotted Persian Viss Area Rug

A vintage Persian Viss area rug. This rectilinear wool rug is hand-knotted in a palette of rust, cream, apricot, and black. It begins with a vertical row of hooked diamond medallions, three of which are larger, two smaller. The medallions rest on a markedly abrashed, rust-colored field, amid geometric flowering plants, with two possible inscriptions in the center. Framing the field are six borders. These include an interior, in-facing sawtooth border along the edges of the field, as well as two laleh abbasi borders, reciprocal lappet patterns, and a repeating floral border. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with short cotton warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
