Mark Coomer Historic America-Themed Serigraphs

Item Details

In Plate

An assortment of serigraphs of historic American buildings and figures on board by listed artist Mark Coomer (1914-2004)*. This group of eight prints features scenes of daily life in Colonial Williamsburg, such as a woman baking bread in Raleigh Tavern, a wigmaker at work, figures strolling through town, and more. Also included are two Western-themed prints of a horse tied up outside a saloon and figures on a street with a print shop and drug store. One last print features a mill house on a waterfall. All prints are signed, and some titled, in print to a lower corner and are presented without frames or hanging hardware.

Born in Bay City, Michigan, Mark Coomer studied art in Chicago and Detroit before eventually settling in Arizona. He is known for his paintings and serigraphs, often depicting street patioscapes and urban city scenes. Coomer did almost all of his own printing, limiting his editions to 100. His preferred ground for his prints was masonite board, which combined with the permanent nature of his oil-based inks, were advertised as “washable”. Coomer exhibited his paintings and limited edition serigraphs nationally, and many can be found in private collections and institutions including the Chicago Art Institute; Challis Galleries, Laguna Beach, California; and The West and Walter-Bimson Western Art Collection housed at the University of Arizona Museum of Art.
