English Sterling Silver Box and Knife Rest by Birmingham Silversmiths

A pairing of English sterling silver pieces by Birmingham silversmiths. This includes a knife rest from 1883 by Colen Hewer Cheshire, stamped to the side with the ‘C.C’ maker’s mark alongside four hallmarks consisting of a Queen Victoria duty mark, a lion passant for sterling, an anchor for Birmingham, and an ‘i’ for 1883. It is presented with a sterling silver box from 1919 by Hasset & Harper Ltd., featuring wood interior lining and a personalized engraving to the top of the hinged lid. It is marked to the side ‘H&H LD’ along with the three hallmarks of an anchor for Birmingham, a lion passant, and a ‘u’ for 1919. The approximate weight of the knife rest is 0.975 ozt.
