Antique Derby Imari "Witches" Tea Service
Item Details
An antique Regency period Derby porcelain tea service. This tea service dates between the years 1806-1820 and presents the Imari Witches pattern. These pieces are decorated in underglazed blue panels featuring a gilded scrolling foliate, spiral, and circle design with an iron red upper panel decorated with a gilt daisy and circle pattern and a lower mazarine blue archway centered on the blue panel. These panels alternate with reserve panels featuring a floral pattern with an iron red enamel flower surrounded by reaching blue vines with iron red enamel flower buds and green enamel sprouts all with gilt outlines and accents. Each color applied to the pieces required an extra firing leading to each piece in this selection going through the firing process approximately five times. Included in this set is one teapot with a scrolling handle, one oval shaped teapot stand, one cream jug with a scrolling handle, one sucrier with twisted rope handles, ten saucers, eight coffee cans featuring New Dresden shaped handles, and ten teabowls with New Dresden shaped handles. Each piece is marked with a hand painted crown mark in iron red with decorator and gilder numbers to the underside.

- sucrier is missing its finial; chip present to coffee can; hairline crack present on one and a repaired break to another coffee can; a chip on the large saucer dish, staining present; light crazing throughout; light peppering.
