An 18th-century oil portrait painting on canvas of William Gillis by well-listed English painter and portraitist Sir William Beechey RA (1753 – 1839). This painting depicts a man with a hand in his yellow vest wearing a cravat. He holds an open letter in his visible hand with Sir William Beechey’s signature. A plaque on the frame provides the names of the sitter and artist. To the verso is a label for ‘Jane & Henry Eckert Antiques’. This piece is presented without glass in a gilt and gesso frame with scrolling acanthus leaf molding. Provenance information is included with the painting.

- cracks are present to the frame; craquelure is present throughout; canvas has been relined.
