A mixed media sculpture titled Diplomat by American outsider artist Frank Kowing (1944 – 2016), created in 2010. The sculpture features an abstracted portrait of a male figure comprised of dis-articulated features, plaster, acrylic, hair and more. The work is signed by hand, dated and titled to the verso. There is a saw-tooth hanging hardware installed to the verso. Accompanied with a descriptive catalog on the artist’s painting series Journey of Healing.

Frank Kowing is an outsider artist based in Maryland with a larger than life reputation, the bulk of his focus being mixed media works, many grand in scale and with three dimensional quality. He has participated in a vast array of group shows and exhibits since his first shows in the 1970s in New York City. His education, after service in Vietnam with the US Army, was extensive and included the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, Amsterdam, Netherlands and several fine art institutions in Pennsylvania.
