A mixed media sculpture titled Don Imus from the VIP, M.M, series by American outsider artist Frank Kowing (1944-2016), created in 2007. The sculpture is comprised of various overlapping items including board, wood panels, fragments of a chair, tree branches and the abstracted acrylic portrait of a male figure. Multiple inscriptions and gestural brushstrokes are present throughout the composition. To the lower area of the composition, a black painted inscription reading ‘Edition of 55, Numbered by’ is present along the hanging wood fragments. Signed and dated in green paint to the lower wood panel. An informational label with title, date, and dimensions of the piece is affixed to the work. Accompanied with a descriptive catalog on the artist’s painting series Journey of Healing.

Frank Kowing is an outsider artist based in Maryland with a larger than life reputation, the bulk of his focus being mixed media works, many grand in scale and with three dimensional quality. He has participated in a vast array of group shows and exhibits since his first shows in the 1970s in New York City. His education, after service in Vietnam with the US Army, was extensive and included the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, Amsterdam, Netherlands and several fine art institutions in Pennsylvania.
