A mixed media sculpture titled Odious to Dios w/ Cutler Hands-on by Maryland artist Frank Kowing (1944 – 2016), created in 2007. This work features an abstract, insect-like creature rendered with sticks, gloves, acrylic paint, rope, and other found objects. It is titled and dated to an attached label. While this work is unsigned, it comes directly from the artist’s estate. Accompanied by a descriptive catalog on the artist’s painting series Journey of Healing.

Frank Kowing is an outsider artist based in Maryland with a larger than life reputation. The bulk of his focus is mixed media works, many grand in scale and with three dimensional quality. He has participated in a vast array of group shows and exhibits since his first shows in the 1970’s in New York City. His education, after service in Vietnam with the US Army, was extensive and included the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, Amsterdam, Netherlands, and several fine art institutions in Pennsylvania.
