An oil painting on board titled NY Skyline by Cincinnati painter Robert Herrmann (American, 1922-1996), executed in 1953-54. Depicted is rooftop view in the New York skyline. Buildings are layered behind one another, appearing in brown and red tones beneath a robust red sky. Signed to the lower left, ‘Herrmann 53-54.’ Inscribed to the verso with the title. Unmounted and unframed.
Herrmann acquired his formal artistic and architectural training at the University of Cincinnati, University of Wisconsin, Ohio State University, University of Iowa, and Columbia University. While professionally trained, he chose to never exhibit his work publicly, making his first solo exhibit posthumous. He is known for his precisionist style and his paintings of architectural landscapes.
