A mixed media sculpture titled A Better Rat Trap by Frank Kowing (1944-2016). Depicted is a rat on top of a weight scale with a created contraption from found objects trapping the rat. This work is unsigned but comes directly from the artist’s estate. Please note that this item does not come with a certificate of authentication or provenance. A label with the title and date of creation of the work is attached. Accompanied by a descriptive catalog on the artist’s painting series Journey of Healing.
Frank Kowing is an outsider artist based in Maryland with a larger than life reputation, the bulk of his focus being mixed media works, many grand in scale and with three dimensional quality. He has participated in a vast array of group shows and exhibits since his first shows in the 1970s in New York City. His education, after service in Vietnam with the US Army, was extensive and included the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, Amsterdam, Netherlands and several fine art institutions in Pennsylvania.
