A mixed media sculpture titled Broken Eye by Frank Kowing (American; 1944-2016), created in 2006 as a part of the Par-a-dise series. Depicted is a collage of various materials including found objects, hand painted aspects on foam core, and wood. While the item is not signed, it comes directly from the artist’s estate. Please note that this item does not come with a certificate of authentication or provenance. A gallery description is attached to the verso. There is also gallery label attached to the piece with title and date. Presented with wire for mounting. Accompanied by a descriptive catalog on the artist’s painting series Journey of Healing.
Frank Kowing is an outsider artist based in Maryland with a larger than life reputation, the bulk of his focus being mixed media works, many grand in scale and with three dimensional quality. He has participated in a vast array of group shows and exhibits since his first shows in the 1970s in New York City. His education, after service in Vietnam with the US Army, was extensive and included the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, Amsterdam, Netherlands and several fine art institutions in Pennsylvania.
