Antique Chippendale Side Chair, Circa 1760-1780

Item Details

An antique Chippendale side chair, circa 1760-1780. The mahogany frame features a serpentine crest with carved ears above a pierced, owl’s-eye splat and a trapezoidal, slip seat. The seat is upholstered in cream fabric embroidered with multi-colored, floral motifs. The chair rises on cabriole, front legs with sharp, arising knees ending in pad feet.

Condition

- some scratches, scuffs, and nicks, mostly to legs; some fading to frame; frame retains remnants of an older finish with scattered losses, alligatoring, and flaking; some patch repairs along front and rear seat rails; upholstery is later and stained.
