A vintage Chinese huanghuali horseshoe back armchair. This 20th century interpretation of the classic Ming Dynasty design features a curved crest leading into tightly scrolled hand holds, supported by a figural gilt mother of pearl inlay and penwork back splat. The arms include curved supports and the piece has a floating panel seat on a decorative apron including scrolling spandrels. The piece rises up on squared legs ending in scroll-form hoof feet. The chair is made of huanghuali or fragrant rosewood (Dalbergia odorifera). Unmarked
