Hand-Knotted Indo-Karaja Carpet Runner
Item Details
A hand-knotted Indo-Karaja carpet runner. This wool rug, likely made in India, features a Persian Karaja tribal design in a palette of cherry, saffron, azure, pink, and midnight blue. It begins with a vertical row of medallions in two alternating shapes, one hooked, the other a box with a protruding arm on each side. The medallions rest on a cherry field, which is filled with geometric florets, chevrons, and vertebral motifs. Framing the field are compound borders, including a Caucasian-style floral meander main border with slanted bars over saffron, and minor borders featuring geometric meander patterns. Selvedges are overcast. Ends finish with ivory cotton warp fringe. Unlabeled.
