Hand-Knotted Indo-Heriz Carpet Runner

A hand-knotted Indo-Heriz carpet runner. This wool rug, likely made in India, is rendered in a palette of burgundy, cream, black, rose, camel, and slate blue. It begins with two large Heriz-style rectilinear medallions, each featuring eight palmette lobes over black. The medallions rest on a burgundy field amid partial medallions as well as palmettes, a pair of animal motifs, flowers, and arrows. Framing the field are a lateral border on each side featuring a sawtooth pattern in rose and black. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with cotton warp fringe in gray, with pink and blue. Unlabeled.
