Semi-Antique Hand-Knotted Persian Armenian Area Rug with Inscription
Item Details
A semi-antique Armenian area rug. This wool rug, which was made in Iran, is hand-knotted in an abrashed palette of rose, cream, sapphire, midnight blue, ivory, pink, and cerulean. It begins with a palmette star medallion grounded in powder blue over a variegated rose-colored field with elaborate spandrels. Populating the field are four stylized floral and vine motifs and a pair of chandelier medallion pendants. At one end of the field is an inscription in Armenian script. The field is framed by five borders, including a highly stylized herati main border over midnight blue. Selvedges are overcast. Ends finish with short wool warp fringe. The rug is labeled on the reverse.

- heavy wear on the middle of the front side of the rug, including loose threads and wear to pile with some balding.
