Hand-Knotted Persian Tabatabai Tabriz Hunting Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted Persian Tabatabai Tabriz hunting rug. This wool area rug features a workshop design that was made in the 1950s to 1970s. It begins with an elaborate tree of life surrounded by running deer, colorful birds, flowers, palmettes, leaves, and vines over an ivory field. The palette is ivory, taupe, cerulean, shades of brown, and pale pastels. Framing the field are compound borders, including a stylized herati primary border featuring meandering palmettes and vines over a camel-colored ground. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with knotted ivory wool warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
