Mark Coomer and Beaugureau Serigraphs of Various Themes

Item Details

In Plate

An assortment of serigraphs on board of various themes by listed artist Mark Coomer (1914-2004) and Beaugureau. This nine piece collection includes prints depicting Aztec and Maya masks and sculptures, a Geisha with a scroll, figures walking past homes, and a pair of prints depicting figures on walking and riding donkeys in a Middle Eastern city. Each print is signed in plate to the lower corners.

Born in Bay City, Michigan, Mark Coomer studied art in Chicago and Detroit before eventually settling in Arizona. He is known for his paintings and serigraphs, often depicting street patioscapes and urban city scenes. Coomer did almost all of his own printing, limiting his editions to 100. His preferred ground for his prints was masonite board, which combined with the permanent nature of his oil-based inks, were advertised as “washable”. Coomer exhibited his paintings and limited edition serigraphs nationally, and many can be found in private collections and institutions including the Chicago Art Institute; Challis Galleries, Laguna Beach, California; and The West and Walter-Bimson Western Art Collection housed at the University of Arizona Museum of Art.
