Madhubani Painting of a Lion
Item Details
A Madhubani painting of a lion. This work uses washes of orange and light red over a careful pen drawing of a lion-like beast, its head turned upwards in a dramatic roar. The animal is surrounded by a graphic assortment of flowers and leaves. This piece is mounted under glass in a molded black frame with a wire for hanging. Madhubani painting is traditionally practiced by women in the Mithila region of India and Nepal, and is known for using natural pigments and improvised mark-making tools.
