19th Century Watercolor Landscape on Laid Paper

An original 19th century watercolor painting on laid paper, signed illegibly in gray to the lower right. The painting depicts a shallow valley between two grassy hills dotted with bush trees. A pale coral and blue sky fills the space behind the foliage. The painting is matted in brown and presented in a 19th century wooden frame with cast foliate embellishments, gold tone finish, and a hanging wire. The date ‘1848’ is written to the verso of the frame’s backing, where a sticker from Munson Gallery is also attached.
Condition
- watercolor is quite yellowed with age. Significant discoloration and accretion to matting. Chipping, cracking, and loss across frame; most notably the upper right and lower left corner decorations are missing.
