Vintage Viaticum/Last Rites Cabinet/Sick Call Set
Item Details
A vintage viaticum/last rites cabinet/sick call set. This wooden box features a plaster figurine depicting the Pieta, inset into a shrine with a reverse painted glass front embellished with imagery of angels at the corners, columns with symbolic imagery down the sides, and the phrase ‘Blessed Be Thy Holy Name’ at the bottom. Below the shrine a hinged door featuring a framed image of The Last Supper drops down to form a small alter with metal candlestick holders at the sides. It also provides a space to store the small ritual objects such as the two holy water bottles, prayer book, and small plate bearing the ‘IHS’ monogram of Jesus included with this set. These boxes were designed to be inset into a wall, a wire has been added to this box for hanging. Additional information about these boxes can be found at the link listed below.
Condition
- box in good condition, Last Supper image somewhat faded. Prayer book is held together with duct tape. Candleholders missing.
