Makonde Ebony Sculpture

A vintage Makonde ebony sculpture. This hand carved sculpture presents a womanly form with singular, giant eye, nose and open mouth upon sleek legs and dangling arm. When shifted the sculpture features a surrealist profile with disembodied head on an organic formed base. The sculpture is unmarked by artist. Also included is Modern Makonde Sculpture by J.Anthony Stout, published by Kibo Art Gallery Publications, Nairobi, 1966.
