19th-Century Federal Mahogany Secretary

Item Details

A late 19th-century Federal mahogany secretary. The secretary features crown molding along the top of the recessed upper cabinet. The cabinet has divided glass panes with bead trim. The interior of the cabinet has holes and pegs along the sides hold shelves (shelves are missing). The lower section has a hinged, faux drawer front, whichfolds down to form the desktop. The desk interior houses divided compartments, drawers and a small locking cabinet. The desktop is covered with red leather which has gold stamped borders. . Below are two dovetailed drawers. The drawers are fitted with oval Federal style pulls in aged brass, and the secretary rests on French-style splay feet. The secretary has a metal tag on the inside of a drawer which is marked ‘Wm. A. Berkey Furniture Co. Est. 1881 – W.A.B. F. Co.’
