A mixed media painting, using acrylic paint and fabric on canvas board, by Indiana artist Alys Caviness-Gober (20/21st century). The piece is titled Olga’s Garden I, with the alternative title of Hydrangeas. This work, which is marked as being part of Caviness-Gober’s Garden Series, depicts a painterly rendering of pink, purple, and green hydrangeas, clustered together in a bouquet-like mass against a rich blue ground. The painting is signed and dated ‘Alys 2012’ to its lower left, and is mounted in a white frame with hanging hardware and a notation of the title and artist’s name to its verso.

Alys Caviness-Gober is a self-taught Noblesville, Indiana artist, writer, and photographer. Caviness-Gober is known for her abstract expressionist style landscapes, figures, and floral compositions. She also taught college level Anthropology courses. Caviness-Gober was the 2017 recipient of the Indiana Arts Commission Individual Artists Program Grant. Her work is housed in several private collections and displayed in Indian galleries such as Logan Street Sanctuary, and Love’s Hangover Boutique to name a few. Currently Caviness-Gober is a juried member of the Hamilton County Artists’ Association.
