A ceramic friendship bowl by a member of the Angea family. The Angeas are a multi-generational family of ceramic artists from Tohono O’odham nation in Arizona. This piece features a pierced design that depicts four figures, arms interlocked, dancing in a desert landscape. This motif is derived from the “Nawoj Hah’ah” traditional dance symbolizing the strength of a unified community. The bowl is finished with dark sepia and terra cotta painted accents and signed to the underside.
