Antique Framed Baseball Wood Engraving

This antique baseball wood engraving is a restrike of the original Harper’s Weekly from 1887. The engraving was created by Gilbert Gaul and titled ‘Thrown Out On Second.’ This image represents the infancy of America’s National Pastime. The scene depicts an early game in progress with players wearing period attire. The date of Sept 10, 1887, is marked in the lower right-hand corner in small black print. This artwork is presented in an eglomise matting with a wood black frame underneath glass. The backside has a protective paper cardboard backing with metal wire for mounting purposes.

Condition

Slight wear to the frame. The engraving was not removed from the frame. Slight discoloration from age. The frame has some nicks. The protective paper on the backside has not holes or tears.
