1776 Virginia Currency and Engravings of Patrick Henry and Thomas Jefferson

An original 1776 Virginia currency bill with engravings after portraits of Patrick Henry and Thomas Jefferson. Information to the verso described the currency as ‘Original Currency issued per ’Act of Assembly passed Oct. 7, 1776’. This denomination of ‘eight Spanish milled dollars, or the Value in Gold or Silver’ is signed by B. Dickson and James Wray.’ Also included are engravings after paintings of Patrick Henry and Thomas Jefferson from the 1835 book by James Longacre titled National Portrait Gallery. The bill, engravings and a reproduction of the State Seal of Virginia are mounted under glass in separate openings in a white mat with red gray and white layered mats in a gilt trimmed wood frame that is wired for hanging.

- light wear to frame finish; very light rippling to the bill.
