A Chinese garden stool form wooden storage box. The stool features two pairs of gold tone bordered reliefs to either side. One, inside a quatrefoil border, depicts a god playing a flute while riding a cloud surrounded by snakes and birds in the green sky. Below him three figures travel on the water, one which appears to be a mermaid. The other relief, inside a gold tone circular border, depicts a house on top of a mountain which stands out against a red sky. Blue and green bodies of water extend into the land below. Faces of dragons, gold tone flowers, and scrolls accent the black space surrounding the images. Bands of faux nail head trim accent the top and bottom edges. The removable lid features depictions of snakes wrapped around staffs and other small objects wrapped with them. No maker identified.
