An oil painting on canvas of a dock scene by listed American artist Charles Ross Kinghan (1895-1984). This work features a simple wood shelter situated on the bank, with ramps descending into the water. The work is signed to the lower right. A short bio and a photo of the artist are attached to the verso. The composition is presented in a brown and gold-tone wood frame with carved designs, a canvas liner, and a gold-tone sight edge. Some handwriting is present to the frame verso.
Born in Kansas, Charles Kinghan studied at the Chicago Academy of Fine Art, the American Academy of Art in Chicago, the Audubon School of Art, and the Art Institute of Chicago. He worked as an illustrator for several magazines including Saturday Evening Post, American Artist, and McCalls among others. His work has been collected by various institutions including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the National Academy of Design, and the Smithsonian Institution.
