19th-Century Romantic Pastoral Landscape Oil on Canvas Mounted to Board

An original 19th-century Romantic oil painting on canvas (later mounted to board) by an anonymous artist. The piece depicts a bucolic 19th-century pastoral landscape scene with figures and animals set against a quiet stream, stone bridge and lush green hills. The unsigned work is presented without glass in a gold tone wooden frame with foliate embellishments to the corners, fitted with hanging wire to the verso.
Condition
- heavy wear, craquelure, fading and scratching throughout painting; wear, scratching and nicks to frame; tears to backing paper. Canvas was removed from original stretcher bars and mounted to board as conservation measure.
