Hand-Knotted Indo-Heriz Carpet Runner
Item Details
A hand-knotted Indo-Heriz carpet runner. This wool rug, likely made in India, features a Persian Heriz-style rectilinear design in a palette of burgundy, pale yellow, cream, and midnight blue. It begins with three squarish star medallions, each enclosing a cruciform smaller medallion at its center. The medallions rest on a burgundy field, which is populated with stylized palmettes, vines, flowers, and leaves, with shallow, cream spandrels. Framing the field are three borders, including an unresolved turtle primary border over midnight blue. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with ivory cotton warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
