A Persian Bakhtiari area rug. This wool rug is hand-knotted in a palette of cranberry, sapphire, cream, and coral. It begins with a star palmette medallion in coral and sapphire over a cranberry-colored field with rounded, fused spandrels in cream. The field and spandrels are populated with palmettes, lancet leaves, flowers, and vines. Framing the field are four borders, including a stylized herati primary border incorporating geometric palmettes and split leaves over sapphire, minor meander borders, and an outer guard border in cranberry. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with knotted ivory wool warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
