Vilhelm Bergström Hand-Carved Wood Sculpture

A hand-carved wood sculpture depicting a blacksmith or ferrier, by artist Vilhelm Bergström. The sculpture is made of an unknown type of wood or woods, with both a very dark and medium colored stained finish. The sculpture depicts an elderly blacksmith poised with his hammer about to strike a piece of metal he is holding on an anvil. There is a barrel filled with scrap iron on the floor next to the anvil, and the sculpture rests on a contoured base. The artist’s initials ‘V.B.’ are cut into one side of the sculpture. The artist’s full name is handwritten on the underside of the sculpture.
